2015 Marriage Course

February 17, 2015

Love was in the air on Sunday evening in the Parish of St Thomas and Kilvey as eight couples gathered for their third session in marriage preparation.  They meet each Sunday evening for five weeks and enjoy a three course meal, set out on individual tables, like a romantic restaurant. Each week the evening also comprises a short talk, separated by different activities which the couples do alone on their individual tables.  Topics that are covered are: Communication and effective listening Commitment including a discussion on why marriage and an exercise around marriage vows Spending time together and In-Law Issues Resolving Conflict and Finances Keeping Love alive Shared Goals and Values. So far we have had a Mexican night, a curry night and a Spanish night! Here’s what the Marriage Course offers: Most couples spend up to 250 hours planning their wedding, but very little time, if any, planning for married life. There are many things you can do to begin building a lifelong, happy marriage. Investing in your relationship before you are married will reap rewards for many years to come. 2015 Marriage Preparation course 2 The Marriage Course is a five session course set in a fantastic atmosphere. You will be served with a candlelit meal and/or coffee, tea and dessert in a romantic setting while listening to practical talks that are informative and fun, either given live or played on DVD. There is never any group work and you will never be asked to share anything about your relationship with anyone other than your partner. The Marriage Preparation Course is designed for couples considering marriage and wishing to build a strong and lasting relationship. While based on Christian principles, it is relevant and helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background. The course begins with supper, followed by a talk and an opportunity for discussion. Privacy is respected. The presenters, Nicky and Sila Lee, have been married for over thirty years and speak regularly on relationships and marriage preparation. They are co-authors of The Marriage Book.
