Churches in Brecon have been helping the local Brecon Community to collect practical aid for the crisis in Nepal. Brecon has close links with that country through The Gurkha Company (Mandalay), who are based at the barracks in the town. Brecon itself is home to a sizeable Nepalese community who are all working hard to support relatives and friends affected by the tragedy following the Earthquake on 25th April. The community of St. David’s, Llanfaes opened up its hall as collecting point for practical aid to be sent to the beleaguered nation, the Reverend Tim Williams the Vicar of Llanfaes commented that the “Last few hours of a fantastic effort by the Nepalese families, Gurkha soldiers and the people of Brecon. Brecon shows the true spirit of care and love for all of God's people. Our prayers will continue for our friends and their families in Nepal”. The Diocese of Swansea and Brecon has sent £1300 as an immediate donation to assist relief efforts in Nepal with more money expected to be contributed from parishes across the diocese. If you would like to make a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Nepal Appeal then go to www.dec.org.uk or pop into any bank or post office. Nepal collection 2
