New Canons Welcomed to the Cathedral Chapter
September 17, 2015Holy Cross day, celebrated at the Cathedral on Sunday 13 September, was a fitting day to welcome five new Canons to the Cathedral Chapter. On Holy Cross Day 1923, the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon was formed, and the parish church of St John the Evangelist was established as the Cathedral.
Brecon Cathedral is a place that proclaims God’s love in worship so that holiness can dawn and lives are transformed. We are a community of Christians who are committed to follow Jesus Christ, grow in discipleship, and offer hospitality. The Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, the Right Reverend John Davies collated Revd Peter Brooks, Jonathan Davies, Timothy Hewitt, Hugh Lervy and Janet Russell, which was followed by their installation by the Dean, the Very Revd Dr Paul Shackerley. Parishes, families and friends attended to support and pray for the new Canons, the Cathedral and the Diocese. The Dean of Brecon Cathedral said, ‘I am delighted to welcome experienced priests, chosen for their particular gifts, who bring a rich diversity of gifts to the Cathedral Chapter during hopeful times of significant change and opportunities. I look forward to working with them and the Chapter in developing the Cathedral’s vision and strategy.’
