Penderi Churches Launch New Vision
December 3, 2014The Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Manselton, was full on Advent Sunday morning. The event was a celebration of new beginnings for all of the five churches in the Penderi Deanery as they took their first steps along the road to becoming a Ministry Area.
"The first step of any journey is always the most important, together we have made ours, and now with Gods guidance and blessing we look forward to the opportunities to grow and flourish as Gods people in our communities" Alex Pye, Ministry Area LeaderIn a celebratory service the congregations of St. Teilo (Caereithin), St. Alban (Treboeth), St. Illtyd (Fforestfach) and St.Peter (Cockett) joined St. Michael’s for a combined Eucharist and for the licensing of two lay ministers – with the worship was led by a joint choir. Bishop John was the celebrant and preacher. He applauded Penderi’s vision of becoming a Ministry Area, saying it is an opportunity to do something very special. Bishop John authorised the ministry of two, new Lay Worship Leaders, Kim Burgess and John Kissick licensing them to serve across the Penderi Ministry Area.
"What better time than the beginning of a new liturgical year for the deanery to join together in worship and fellowship. To see people putting words into action by having the confidence to step away from their normal Sunday pattern of worship is extremely encouraging. We are now building on this experience by joining together on every 5th Sunday morning of the month." Jonathan Davies, Area Dean of Penderi.
