Vision Events

July 31, 2014

Beginning in September the Diocese are holding a programme of exciting vision events designed for all. They cover a variety of themes which will help us to consider the future of the church and also the development of Ministry areas. They will cover themes such as Music for Mission, Stimulating Spiritual Conversations, the gifts of the Spirit, Christian spirituality and a day for men seeking a biblical perspective on their daily lives. Each will be led by people experienced in their respective fields, and will also include local input as we continue to build on the Diocesan vision for our churches. The first event will be Music for Mission and will be held in St David’s Church in Penllergaer on Saturday 6th September from 10am to 3pm. The cost for the day is £10 and you will need a packed lunch although drinks and light refreshments will be served.  Booking is needed and can be arranged by contacting the Diocesan Office (swanbrec.vision@churchinwales.org.uk). Bookings for this event are needed as soon as possible, but certainly by the end of August. New Picture The day will be led by Andrew Maries who has tremendous experience gained as a Director of Music working under the ministry of David Watson, and then by setting up the Keynote Trust which has offered consultancy work on music and worship all over the UK working with many denominations. He has also worked regularly on BBC Songs of Praise across the country. This should be a tremendous day of music, worship and fellowship – and no musical ability is necessary, so it really is for everyone !   "For centuries music has played a significant and important part in worship and, with new forms of worship emerging, present circumstances present challenges.  Churches have to be able to provide worship that suits particular forms of service:  traditional music for traditional services; more contemporary music for more contemporary worship.  I commend this particular event as it seeks to explore this important challenge, and I hope it will be well supported." - Bishop John. A flyer for this event can be downloaded here. For booking please contact the Diocesan Centre on 01874 623716 or you can download a booking form here.
